So I'm finally typing this from my new Computer

It's Finally up and working. The original Ram didn't work for some reason, so I've got to send it back. Had to order from Newegg.com to get 100% guaranteed compatiable ram. But it was considerably cheaper so I got 8 gigs.

Final Specs:

  • MOBO: Gigabyte P55M?-UD4? Intel P55 Socket
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-750 2.66Ghz 8M LGA1156? CPU
  • Power Supply: Corsair VX550W? 550W
  • Case: Apex Vortex3620 Gaming Mid-Tower Case
  • Video Card: Visiontek Radeon HD 5850 1GB DDR5? PCIe? (2 tiny steps back from top of the line)
  • HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA HD 7200/32MB/SATA-3G
  • ODD: Samsung 22X DVDRW SATA OEM
  • RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3? SDRAM DDR3? 1333 (PC3? 10666) Dual Channel (2 sets)
  • Mouse/Keyboard: Microsoft Business Hrdwre Pk-Keyboard-Mouse (Ghetto and cheap but $20 less than just a high quality Logitech gaming mouse, let alone what some of those fancy keyboards go for. And it's working perfectly so far)
  • OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64Bit

Working like a dream so far. Windows 7 takes a little bit to get used to and I think some of the changes are stupid (mainly in the start menu) but set to "Windows classic" theme it's not that much different in looks. Runs like a beast and boots up in under 20 seconds, which makes me happy. The Draconian firewall things is useful to. Might be annoying to some (Yes, I do want to install that program I just told you to install) but if it actually is circumvented by virus/spyware it will be useful. Plus Windows 7 seems to block bad drivers, that will fuck up the computer, which is awesome. Especially when the bad drivers is copy protection for Games I downloaded. That amused me greatly.

As for how come 8 gigs works Dad: It's only Core I7 900 or higher than does the 3 gig per channel thing. Core I5 (which I went with as you'll notice) or Core I7 800 series is 2 gig per channel.

On a Completely different note:

The band just find a singer. She (yeah, believe it or not) came out to audition on Thursday and blew me away. Sang the covers damn near perfectly on her first listen through and by the end of the night was singing along fine without the music playing in the background. That's fucking impressive.

5 minutes before December 8th

Apparently we're up to #2 on google searches for "Rose Coloured Glasses". Good for us.

early December, 2009

I found my big jack knife. We were sure it got lost outside while we were pick the wild grapes, but it was actually sitting on one of the paper shelves downstairs where I had been using it to open a package. Helps if you look where things actually are...
Anyway, while the blade is in fine shape the handle is getting pretty chewed up, so the one I mentioned in the gift registry would still be a good gift.

November 14, 2009

There hadn't been a post in a while so I thought I would make one: I just got a 1990s Ibanez S540 LTD in silver/gray. The Silver/gray ones were pretty rare and the 1987-1992 are considered the "Golden age" for Saber (Which is what the S stands for) guitar by Ibanez. Apparently the new ones are fat hogs compared to the old ones. The equivalent guitar would cost me over $2000 (that's with my 20% discount. And %20 may now sound like much but %20 of several thousand is a lot) wheras I snagged this for $500+shipping. This was the guys #1 S. I won't go into the whole forum thing and explain how he isn't bullshitting me into buying a crappy guitar but S-man(The guy's name on Jemsite [which is a site dedicated to Epic Ibanez guitar and Steve Vai's Jem {hence the name} in particular) has posted numerous pictures of his "#1 S" in various different threads up to 5 years before he tried to sell this guy. He required me to say my experience with guitar as he didn't want this mojo filled guitar going to a shitty home. Plus the back tremolo cover is signed by Joe Satriani and cover in 3M clear automotive film so I don't have to worry about it coming off with play. That's right. Over 75% off and signed by Joe Satriani. That's the kind of deal you don't pass up. Everybody else needs to update this shit more. Family wiki people lets make it a Family wiki in more than just name.

I finally got tired of this wiki hanging up all the time. What was causing it is is "Total Counter", the page visit counter. So I shut it down -- nice to know how many visits we are getting, but not worth the trouble.

I Thought this might interest Micheal...

June 30, 2009

I just got hired to teach guitar at the KSMF. $600 for the week. August 3-7! Class of 7-10 kids. Awesome.

Easter

We'll be coming home Thursday night (It's our 4 year anniversary believe it or not). I have a question for Michael and for some reason everytime I send him an e-mail I get a, "Failure to deliver," e-mail from Yahoo.

Warmachine has just released "Field test" rules for it's new edition (Mark 2). I'm reading over them and I was wondering if you would like to have some gaming over the 5ish days we will be home? I'm also planning on bringin Zombies and throwing weapons but I don't think we have enough room to throw them at the parents.

March 26, 2009

No Beliefs!!!

I came across this interesting site and I didn't see it in either you "pages" or "Links" page so I'm posting it here. I'd swear I remember seeing it before, it is possible that even you showed it to me but just in case: Take that Jesus!

No I hadn't actually seen that one before. Good find, Dan.

June 28, 2007 -- Charlie has been adopted!

Charlie, our new foster dog, was adopted today by some nice people from our neighbourhood here in Kincardine.

I want your puppy!!!

June 16, 2007 -- A new foster dog!

We weren't really planning on fostering any more dogs, since the last few were pretty hard on the cats.
But Kathi from Adoptapet Pet Rescue emailed us this week about a 9 week old puppy in the pound in Walkerton. She couldn't find anyone else to take him, so we agreed.

Charlie is an Australian shepherd and he is a real sweetie. As you can see below, he and Rumour get along very well so far.

Piper is her usual regally aloof self. And Charlie hasn't been bothering the cats at all.

A Frog has taken up residence in our pond! (Sometime in the spring of 2007)

He is quite a singer too... I guess he is hoping to attract some female company. Good luck froggy!

Jokes on Us, the Snow Came Back -- April 8, 2007

There was a big snowstorm a the start of Easter Weekend, and this was the result--not funny!

All the snow is gone! March 26, 2007

All the snow is gone form our lot.
Last year it was March 28.

New photo gallery, Adriene's orchids

New photos -- Dan and Katelyn all dressed up to go to Scott and Ashley's wedding last June.

Thursday, December 28, 2006 -- Scamp has been adopted!

By a nice couple from Scarbourough. He went home with them today.
Dec. 30: we had an email to say that Scamp is settling in well.

Wednesday, December 20, 2006 -- Our wiki has been hacked!

A couple of times today some one hacked into our wiki and defaced the main page. Relatively harmless, and easy to recover from, but who needs it. So now to edit pages you need a password. Just give me a call or and email and I will gladly share it with you. --Irv

Tuesday, November 7, 2006 -- A new Foster Dog

This is Scamp, a Australian shepherd mix (maybe with Border Collie???) who is around a year old.
We foster dogs for Adopt-a-pet/Pet Rescue, a privately operated, non-profit animal rescue organization based in Lucknow, Ontario.

Saturday, November 4, 2006

Jo-ann's birthday party, more details and a photo gallery soon.

Friday, October 13, 2006

Irv's lucky day! And today it is snowing in Kincardine, too.

Wow! I hope it doesn't snow up this way, though I am sure it will. I just hope everyone makes it here alright. This sudden change in in dryness has had it's effects on me. I had three nosebleeds yesterday, and one already today!

October 12, 2006 -- A CRAZY OCCURANCE!

It is snowing! I was actually caught in a blizzard. I didn't know what was going on! But one thing is for sure...I am glad we brought our winter coats home!

September 27, 2006 -- Lulu has been adopted!

She has gone to live with a nice young lady in London.

New Foster Dogs

We foster dogs for Adopt-a-pet/Pet Rescue, a privately operated, non-profit animal rescue organization based in Lucknow, Ontario.

Lulu

Lulu is a female chocolate lab who came form the dog pound in Mount Forest. We got her on Tuesday, July 25. She is about a year and a half old and still very much a pup. Things have been a bit of a circus around here, but she is starting to settle down pretty well after three days.

Danny

Danny is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and Border Collie mix.
Danny was a very quiet, gentle and friendly dog, but a real Houdini who would often find a way to escape in order to follow us when we went out, or to visit other dogs in the neighbourhood. Very easy to catch, though.
We got him on Saturday July 1 and he was adopted on Saturday July 22 by a nice family from Guelph.

Rumour

Rumour is a Siberian Husky mix. We got him on October 6, 2005 and offically adopted him on June 23 this year.
We are now going to a training course with him at On Golden Paws in Goderich.
It is going very well and a lot of problems that we thought could never be fixed are clearing up nicely.

As you can see, Rumour gets along well with the foster dogs!

Another new photo gallery...

New photo gallery, Alicia and Dan's Wedding

Alicia is my (Irv's) niece, my sister Lorl's oldest daughter.
She got married on May 6, in Cornwall. Carolynn and I went and had a great time, except for one little mishap (see the next news item, below).

Carolynn broke her foot!

While being escorted down the aisle to her seat at Alica's wedding, Carolynn slipped and went over on her right foot. She iced it between the wedding and the reception and danced quite a bit (well, maybe not as much as usual for Carolynn). We drove home on Sunday and on Monday morning she finally agreed that maybe it was time to go to the hospital. Her right foot turned out to be broken, at the base of the fifth metatarsal (the long bone that leads to your little toe). Since then she has been in an aircast with orders to keep her weight off it. Today (May 23) she finally saw our own family doctor who reviewed the xray and says that everything is lined up right and it is OK to start feathering some weight onto the foot. Another 4 weeks before she can get right of the cast, though.

Four photos altogether, scroll down to see them all...

Not quite the end of March and all the snow is gone!

The Fish Ponds

The Bamboo Grove -- very little winter kill this year.

Ryan's "Broke Back Boat" (that's our clothes line just to the left of center)

Congratulations Dan!

Dan has been accepted for the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College next fall.
This is fantastic news, as it allows him to continue with his life as planned.

The Beast in His Natural Environment

This photo was taken by Val Young, our neighbour on the north side,
sometime in mid-February. She was standing on her back deck looking at Rumour,
while he was standing on our back deck, looking at her.
As you can see, we have had a lot of snow this month.
Irv Mills February 26, 2006, at 11:33 AM EST

Rumor is our current foster dog and he comes from Adopt-a-pet/Pet Rescue, a privately operated, non-profit animal shelter based in Lucknow, Ontario. He is available for adoption.
Irv Mills March 06, 2006, at 01:22 PM EST
Note: we adopted Rumour ourselves on June 23, 2006!
